Schalke thoroughly defeated host Leverkusen on Friday to surge ahead to 8th place in the 1. Bundesliga table. Schalke’s Guido Burgstaller, earlier this season a top scorer in the 2. Bundesliga for Nürnberg, hit the net twice, in the 6th minute and again just 5 minutes into the 2nd half, and Schalke’s other goals came from Benedikt Howedes and Alessando Schopf. Leverkusen’s lone goal came from Stefan Kiessling in the 69th minute, and the loss means that Leverkusen has now played 4 matches without a win. Thiago Alcantara has extended his contract with Bayern München until 2021. Alcantara joined Bayern from Barcelona in 2013, and has scored 8 goals and assisted in every appearance so far this season. Alcantara is also the son of Brazil 1994 World Cup winner Mazinho. Werder Bremen, who have made a surprise resurgence in the table in recent weeks, announced that forward Aron Johannsson will be allowed to leave the club this summer. The US international joined Bremen in 2015, but has had 2 disappointing years, due in part to a hip injury in his first season. This season has seen him make only 2 starts in the opening 2 games and 7 substitute appearances. Borussia Dortmund defender Marc Bartra said he is “happy” with his recovery following wrist surgery after the bus attack earlier this month. The Spanish international is expected to be out for at least a month, but was the only Dortmund player seriously injured in the attack. Dortmund will be making a week-long tour of Asia this summer and will compete against the Urawa Reds and AC Milan, and will be touring the US in the summer of 2018. Nuri Sahin will still be with the club then, as he has extended his contract to 2019. He is currently out with an ankle injury, but is expected to return to play before the end of the season. Sahin began his professional career with Dortmund in 2005 and has made 203 appearances and scored 19 goals. His only absence from the club, apart from injuries, came with his time at Real Madrid from 2011-2013. Hertha Berlin is preparing to open talks to extend the loan with Liverpool midfielder Allan. Allan joined Liverpool from Porto Alegre in 2015, but has yet to play in the Premier League, having played on loan for SJK in Finland and Sint-Truiden in Belgium before coming to Hertha. Although the Brazilian has only made 5 starts for Hertha, but coach Pal Dardai was impressed with Allan’s play in Saturday’s 1:0 win over Wolfsburg. Bayern could win the league title this weekend: all it needs is a win in Wolfsburg and a Leipzig loss against Ingolstadt.
