RB Leipzig preserved its run for the title on Friday with a 1:0 victory over hosts Arminia Bielefeld. Leipzig captain Marcel Sabitzer scored the match’s only goal in the 46th minute, off a pass from Dani Olmo. The goal was Sabitzer’s sixth this season, bringing him even with teammates Emil Forsberg and Christopher Nkunku. The three additional points on Friday brings Julian Nagelsmann to 123 in charge of the Red Bulls, surpassing the previous club record of 120 held by Ralph Hasenhütti. This was also the first time in the club’s history to win 4 consecutive away matches without conceding a goal Bayern will host Stuttgart on Saturday as striker Robert Lewandowski closes in on Gerd Müller’s single-season scoring record. Although Lewandowski’s goal in the win over Bremen last weekend put him level in second place with Klaus Fischer in the all-time scoring charts with 268, he is well behind Müller’s record of 365, but just 8 goals behind Müller’s single-season record of 40. Lewandowski will be joined on the pitch by Manuel Neuer, who is returning from a head cold, who may not have an easy time with his Stuttgart opponents. In this season’s reverse fixture, Stuttgart held the lead for 17 minutes before Lewandowski and Coman turned the game around. Stuttgart have had a successful return to the 1. Bundesliga this season, and are only four points adrift of the European qualification spots, thanks in part to the scoring duo of Sasa Kalajdzic and Silas Wamangituka, who have each scored 13 goals to date. The league’s 3rd-place club, VfL Wolfsburg, will travel to Bremen on Saturday. Wolfsburg have collected 27 of a possible 39 points since a loss to Bayern in mid-December, solidifying their position among the top clubs in the league. Wolfsburg’s Wout Weghorst, who has 16 goals this season, scored 2 goals in the reverse fixture in a 5:3 win. Bremen will continue to depend on Josh Sargent remaining in form, as he has already scored more times this season than in each of his previous seasons in the league. The outcomes at the other end of the table remain up in the air going into the final weeks of the season. Schalke, facing relegation at the end of the season, will host a struggling Gladbach on Saturday. On Sunday, Mainz will travel south to take on Hoffenheim, and Hertha will travel to Leverkusen. The Hertha-Leverkusen match will be their 50th in the Bundesliga, and a win over Hoffenheim could push them back out of the relegation zone. Leverkusen have lost six of their past ten games in all competitions, but have welcomed the return of Florian Wirtz, who is enjoying his first nomination to Germany’s senior squad.
