Philly Bundesliga Fan Coalition and Brauhaus Schmitz were shown on national TV!

9/16/2015

On Saturday, September 12, 2015, a Fox Sports 1 (FS1) camera showed up bright and early at Brauhaus Schmitz in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The FS1 camera operator was there to film the Philly Bundesliga Fan Coalition Matchday 4 viewing event, which featured the FC Bayern München/FC Augsburg match. Even though the match didn't start until 9:30 a.m., loyal Bundesliga fans filed into Brauhaus starting at 8:15 a.m. because FS1 wanted to film some shots prior to their 9 a.m. pre-match show. By the end of the match, there were between 60 and 70 viewers in front of the FS1 camera and the Brauhaus large projection screen.

What none of the attendees knew was that FS1 was actually there filming mainly for their national Fox broadcast of the tape-delayed Bayern/Augsburg the next day. On Saturday, Philly BFC was on FS1 for a short period of time, and we didn't even know we had been filmed, BUT on Sunday, prior to the Bayern/Augsburg match, we had a better showing, and in the post-match show, Fox devoted 14 seconds to our reaction to the penalty that was awarded to Bayern. Check out the clips below. If anybody has a better quality screencap of the pre-match and post-match clips, please email them.
Did you see us on national TV?

Our next HUGE viewing event will take place on Sunday, October 4 at 11:30 a.m. during the FC Bayern München/Borussia Dortmund match. However, viewing events will also take place on Saturday, September 26 and Saturday, October 3. Hope to see you at some upcoming events!

Why Following @BundesligaOnFox Is A Middle Finger To Fox Sports

7/26/2015

Many of you read the Bavarian Football Works article earlier this week about how the Fox Sports scheduling (or lack thereof) of German Bundesliga is a middle finger to American Bundesliga fans. There seems to be a section of the American Bundesliga population that is generally ok with what Fox Sports has done, mainly because of the $99/year Fox Soccer 2 Go streaming service, but it's doubtful that most people imagined that when it was announced that Fox Sports would start broadcasting our favorite league this season there would be such a lack of widely available television broadcasting options. Remember this juicy part of a 2013 SB Nation article: "The games will be more readily available on Fox's Fox Sports 1, Fox Sports 2, Fox Soccer Plus, and Fox Soccer 2 Go. Plus, we may even see a few games on Fox's mothership." Now that specific details have been added to the schedule section of the Fox Sports Bundesliga site, it is clear that the Fox television focus is on Fox Sports 2 and Fox Sports Plus. For Comcast subscribers that means back to the Bundesliga drawing board as both Fox Sports 2 and Fox Sports Plus are not available on their channel guide.

Well, Bundesliga fans, don't let a little bit of Fox milk make you cry. The @BundesligaOnFox parody Twitter account will turn your frowns upside down and is fingering its social media middle finger at Fox Sports. While it is doubtful that the Twitter account will have any impact on Fox Sports plans for Bundesliga, it is still funny and well worth following if you have a sense of humor, enjoy story telling, and don't mind getting some misinformation in your Twitter feed. It's highly likely that @BundesligaOnFox will be shut down either before the season starts or during the season, but it's also possible that Fox Sports is such a huge organization that when it's included in @BundesligaOnFox's own tweets it doesn't even know how to react or who to contact to find out if the account is legit. For example:
Bundesliga On Fox Follow Friday Tweet
On more than a few occasions, @BundesligaOnFox has included Fox Sports Twitter accounts in its tweets, and as far as we can tell, there have been no reactions to it. Of course, for Twitter fact checkers the account's bio section specifically mentions that it is a parody account, but not everybody looks at Twitter bios.

What might end up being the funniest part of the Twitter account is its depth of story. There is an attempt to bring life to its "employees" and "organization." From what can be gathered by its tweets, the @BundesligaOnFox organization includes a Director of Operations, Deputy Director of Operations, Director of Marketing (only working 1 hour a week with a half hour lunch break), Social Media Coordinator, HR Director, an intern, and a Chief of Umlauts. Yes, a Chief of Umlauts, that is training the staff how to tweet and update the actual Fox Sports website with proper umlauts. You see, this account is confusing! It tweets actual, legit information while spreading misinformation at the same time. Not to mention creating havoc for Fox Sports, if they even care, and doing a fair amount of trolling into the Twitter conversations of others.

To conclude this longer than necessary article, @BundesligaOnFox is pointing its middle finger right back at Fox Sports for its Bundesliga blunders, and it's worth following if you're on Twitter. At the time of this posting it doesn't seem to be on Facebook or any other social media platform. Here are a few tweets to help you enjoy your Sunday.
