Julian Weigl is a 21-year-old midfielder for Borussia Dortmund and the German national team. Weigl was born in 1995 in Bad Aibling, Germany and began playing football at the age of 6 for SV Ostermünchen. From 2006 to 2010, he played for 1860 Rosenheim, and then transferred to 1860 München. His 2nd Bundesliga debut followed on February 14, 2014, in a match against Ingolstadt, when he replaced Yannick Stark at the 66th minute in a 2:0 defeat. After appearing in 14 matches that season, he became the youngest captain in 1860’s history for the 2014-15 season. His captaincy was short-lived, however, when he and several teammates were out late at night drinking and overhead making negative comments about the club. He was then transferred at the end of the season to Borussia Dortmund for a contract that runs through 2019. In 2016, he was named the Facebook FA Bundesliga Newcomer of the Year.
