Schalke’s Amine Harit scored a goal in the 89th minute of Friday’s match to send his club to a 2:1 victory over visiting Mainz. Schalke found the net first in the match, but not until the 36th minute, when Suat Serdar found the net against his former club. Mainz finally tied the match in the 74th minute when Karim Onisiwo, who had just been substituted in minutes earlier, found the top corner of the goal. This was Schalke’s 3rd consecutive win this season and puts them tied with RB Leipzig in points at the top of the table going into Saturday’s contests. Perhaps one of the more interesting of those contests will be that between Hertha and visitors Paderborn, who are tied at the bottom of the table with 1 point apiece. Both clubs are still on the hunt for their first victory of the season, and the slow start to the season has put Hertha in the relegation zone for the first time in 9 years. Paderborn are the first promoted team to have gone their first 4 games without a win since Eintracht Braunschweig did the same in 2013. One player to watch will be Paderborn’s Streli Mamba: the German-born Congolese attacker has scored or assisted 3 of the club’s 5 goals this season. Also on Saturday, Bayern’s Robert Lewandowski will try to be the first Bayern player since Carsten Jancker in 2000 to score a goal in each of the first 5 games of the season, when Bayern hosts 1. FC Köln. The match will be an uphill battle for Cologne, who have lost 8 of their last 9 matches against Bayern, and 3 of their 4 Bundesliga matches this season. Lewandowski, who was August’s Player of the Month, has 9 goals in 11 Bundesliga matches against Cologne, and another goal would give him further reason to drink up when the club visits Oktoberfest. On Sunday, Borussia Dortmund will travel to Frankfurt in what is sure to be a close contest. Frankfurt have won both of their home matches this season, but are still in 9th place in the table after struggling on the road. Dortmund haven’t lost to Frankfurt, however, in their last 6 matches, and buried Bayer Leverkusen 4:0 last weekend. Watch Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho try to extend his assist streak: he has had 1 every contest so far this season. Finally, on Monday, Wolfsburg will host Hoffenheim and hope to extend their undefeated streak: only they, Bayern, and Leipzig have yet to lose this season. Wolfsburg’s Wout Weghorst is second to Lewandowski in goals and assists (14 versus 19).
