The MD 16 results: Robin Quaison's first half hat-trick saw dominant Mainz increase Werder Bremen's relegation fears in 5-0 thumping on Tuesday evening. Bremen, who were hammered 6-1 at Bayern Munich on Saturday, are just three points away from the drop zone after being blown away in the opening period by a Mainz team who started the match just one place above them. The home side were 3-0 behind after just 19 minutes, with the visitors showing a relentless energy that has escaped them for much of this campaign. Quaison struck twice either side of an own goal from Bremen keeper Jiri Pavlenka, who was unlucky to concede after a clearance struck the woodwork and hit him on the back. He completed his treble in the 38th minute, converting lose ball from a corner to make it 4-0 at the break. Claudio Pizarro thought he had got one back for Bremen in the second half, however his goal -- which would have meant his 22nd consecutive Bundesliga season with at least one goal -- was ruled out for handball. Jean-Philippe Mateta added a fifth in the 81st minute to compound Bremen coach Florian Kohfeldt's woes. In Tuesday's late games, league leaders RB Leipzig have a chance to go five clear when they travel to fellow title challengers Borussia Dortmund. Patrik Schick snatched a draw for RB Leipzig in a pulsating 3-3 draw at title rivals Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday that moved them three points clear at the top of the Bundesliga. Timo Werner also struck twice as Leipzig twice came from behind twice in the second half in a fiery encounter played out in torrential rain at Signal Iduna Park. The draw means third-placed Dortmund missed the chance to move second ahead of Borussia Moechengladbach, who can join Leipzig on 34 points with a win over bottom side Paderborn on Wednesday. Jurgen Klinsmann claimed a second straight 1-0 win in charge of Hertha Berlin as Karim Rekik's second-half goal was enough to beat Bayern Leverkusen on Wednesday. The three points move Hertha six points away from the relegation zone. Peter Bosz's side are seventh after a second straight defeat. Elsewhere, Augsburg put three past a struggling Fortuna Duesseldorf at home, to leave the visitors entrenched in the relegation playoff spot. Philipp Max scored in 32nd and 72nd minutes before Tin Jedvaj ended the discussion just after the hour mark. Hoffenheim won 2-0 at Union Berlin through second half goals from Ihlas Bebou and Christoph Baumgartner.

Eintracht Frankfurt came behind from a 2:0 deficit to deny new Hertha coach Jürgen Klinsmann his first win, resulting on Friday in a 2:2 draw between the 2 clubs. Hertha’s 1st goal came in the match’s 30th minute when Dodi Lukebakio scored off a pass from Marko Grujic. Grujic himself then scored in the 63rd minute courtesy of a header from Dedryck Boyata, in turn off a free kick from Marvin Plattenhardt. Hosts Frankfurt immediately struck back, however, when defender Martin Hinteregger diverted a header from Almamy Toure beyond Hertha goalkeeper Thomas Kraft. The final goal then came in the 86th minute, when Hinteregger flicked on a corner to Sebastian Rode to earn both clubs a draw. Although each side was able to claim a point in the table, their relative positions remain the same going into the rest of the weekend’s matches, and Eintracht Frankfurt have now won only 1 of their last 11 Bundesliga matches against Hertha. Several of Saturday’s matches will involve clubs that separated by only 1 match or less in the table. The contest between Bayern and hosts Gladbach, however is not 1 of them. Gladbach is now 4 points clear of Bayern in the table, thanks to 9 wins out of 13 league matches prior to Saturday, and is anticipating the return of center-back Matthias Ginter following an injury. Bayern striker Robert Lewandowski has failed to score in his last 2 Bundesliga outings, and his club lost to Leverkusen last weekend. The contest between Freiburg and Wolfsburg is bound to be a competitive one, as Wolfsburg striker Wout Weghorst looks to build on his scoring run. Freiburg, for its part, managed to take a point against Dortmund and 3 points against Leipzig so far this season, but will have to do without Luca Waldschmidt. Also worth watching will be the match between Mainz and hosts Augsburg, who are separated by just 1 point in the table. Both clubs have already shown signs of turning their seasons around: Augsburg have had back-to-back wins against Paderborn and Hertha and a draw against Cologne, while Mainz have earned 2 consecutive wins over Hoffenheim and Frankfurt under new coach Achim Beierlorzer. Finally, Schalke and hosts Leverkusen are separated by just 3 points in the table. Kai Havertz is set to return from injury and could help Leverkusen extend their unbeaten streak to 4 games, while Schalke are currently unbeaten in 5 matches. By Rich
